Families living as refugees in Lesbos use 7,500 nappies per week!
We are collecting donations of nappies, tents, sleeping bags, and clothing for our current shipment that we are sending to Lesvos this Spring.
Our main focus for this appeal will be on collecting nappies. We are aiming to send enough to provide for the whole camp for one month, that’s 30,000 nappies in total!
How many can you contribute to reach this total?
Perhaps together with your community, colleagues, or neighbours you could aim to collect 5,000 or even 10,000!
NB: Sizes 4 and 5 are needed the most.
New arrival packs as a practical message of welcome…
The camp also distribute a pack to every new arrival to the island that contains essential supplies including clothing and hygiene items. These items are collected together according to size and then rolled up, like a burrito!
Would you like to contribute any of these items?
Sizes: For men and women we mainly need small and medium sizes. There is also a specific need for clothes for boys aged 14-17 as there are many unaccompanied minors of this age arriving to the camp.
Perhaps you could also encourage a group of friends to collect as many of these items as you can?
You could even collect for a specific age group and make up the burritos together! Contact us for more detailed instructions and ideas for how to organise a packing session.
Your donations will help to meet this ongoing need
Your donations of nappies, clothes and supplies will make a real difference to refugees from Afghanistan, Yemen, Syria and many other countries in crisis. These refugees thought they were finally arriving in place of safety in Europe, but now find themselves living in one of the toughest situations on earth, without an end in sight. In April alone 1,900 new arrivals were counted coming to the Aegean islands from the coast of Turkey. These donations will continue to meet an on-going need as new arrivals are set to increase during the warmer months. As soon as we have collected enough relief supplies to fill one transport we will be shipping it off and then gearing up to fill the next one.
Your donations and efforts to mobilise others to be part of this appeal are continually welcomed!
Please let us know what you are planning and we can arrange to come and pick up your collections. For smaller donations you can send items in a parcel to our office address (GAiN UK, c/o Agapé, 167 Newhall Street, Birmingham, B3 1SW).
You can also make a donation towards this appeal that will be used to send these items to the refugee camps. Visit our giving page here: www.give.net/refugeespringappeal.
